Buchu is associated with the traditional healing practices of the Khoikhoi and San peoples of southern Africa rather than Gaelic herbal tradition. **Other names:**
Round-leaf buchu, short-leaf buchu, buchu leaf, boegoe, bucco, bookoo, bucku, buku, diosma; formerly *Barosma betulina*. The name buchu is also used more broadly for several *Agathosma* species, particularly *A. betulina* and *A. crenulata*. ([NCBI][1])

**Brief introduction:**
Buchu is a strongly aromatic evergreen shrub native to the Western Cape of South Africa. It grows to approximately 2 m and has small, leathery, aromatic leaves containing volatile oils. The plant has a long history in Khoikhoi and San medicine and was introduced to European settlers in the Cape during the seventeenth century, after which buchu became an established European herbal drug. Its characteristic aroma comes from a complex essential oil containing compounds such as isomenthone, diosphenol, limonene and sulfur-containing constituents. ([ScienceDirect][2])
