**Other names:**
Creosote bush, greasewood, gobernadora, guamis, hediondilla, chaparro, jarilla. It has also been known botanically as *Larrea divaricata* subsp. *tridentata*.
**Brief introduction:**
Chaparral is an evergreen desert shrub native principally to the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan deserts of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is exceptionally adapted to aridity, with small resinous leaves that reduce water loss and roots capable of efficiently exploiting scarce moisture. The shrub generally grows from approximately 0.5–3 m and bears small yellow flowers and distinctive hairy fruits. Its characteristic resinous odor becomes particularly noticeable after rain.
For centuries, *Larrea tridentata* has been important in Indigenous and Mexican traditional medicine.
