**Brief introduction:**
Eyebright is a group of small annual or semi-parasitic flowering plants native to Europe and parts of northern and temperate Asia. The plants bear delicate white, pink, or purple flowers marked with dark veins and yellow spots. Eyebright has been associated with eye health in European herbal medicine since at least the early modern period, and its name reflects this longstanding reputation. It was traditionally used for irritated or inflamed eyes, excessive tearing, and catarrhal conditions. Modern evidence for its effectiveness in treating eye disease is limited, and unsterile preparations should never be placed directly into the eyes.
