High Holidays (Na Féilte Móra)
These are the great hinges of the year, when the veil between worlds thins and the sacred fire burns brightest.They are marked by bonfires, vigils, processions, and rites of passage.
Be’al Teine (Beltane) – The Fire of Life
Samhain – The Feast of the Ancestors
Grianstad Gheamhraidh (Winter Solstice) – The Birth of Light from Darkness
These days are usually preceded by vigils or fasts, and followed by days of rest, feasting, and offerings to gods and ancestors.
Cross-Quarter Days (Lá na Leathránaí)
These fall between solstices and equinoxes, marking the heartbeats of each season. They are times of both ritual movement and practical preparation.
Be’al Teine (May 1) – Seeding and Fertility
Lughnasadh (August 1) – First Fruits and Games
Yule (Midwinter Feast, near Solstice) – Rebirth and Hearth Magic
Imbolg (February 1) – Purification and Awakening
Though often festive, these days may also include cleansing fasts, dedication rites, or blessings of tools and household items.
Quarter Days (Lá na Ceathair)
These are the solar pivots: Equinoxes and Solstices, known collectively as the Four Albans.
