Collects (5 Part structure): 

 

 

 

(These are a distinguishing characteristic of western liturgy)

1) Invocation/ Address: Indicating the Trinity and Gods in question 

 

 

 

2) Acknowledgement: Description of a divine attribute that relates to the petition (Often 'Cio...''Who...') 

 

 

 

3) Petition: "For one thing only and that in the tersest language" 

 

 

 

4) Aspiration: - The desired result (Mar - in order that) 

 

                          - Indication of a further purpose of the petition (pledge and surety) 

 

 

 

5) Pleading: - Conclusion indicating the mediation of which divinity 

 

                      - Response from the people
