Establishment of a Nemeton (Notes)

Best performed when a High Holiday falls on a New/ Full moon. For purposes here it is assumed to be a Full Moon on Beltane, adapt the rite as necessary. Once the ground is selected (prefereably by omen sign, if not an established Nemeton proper) an Argyll Broadsword is performed. Omen sign is taken from this. If vitium is done, the rite is not to be performed, but is to be rescheduled or relocated.

The day previous to the rite the Nemeton is cleaned, and the stones washed.Towards evening the cords of wood are brought in and placed next to their respective fire pits. The cleansed ritual instruments including the unbound binding-cord, the Sword, the sycle, the ladles, the Cuaich ect are set upon the altar stone. The kegs of Whiskey, Mead and Water are placed appropriately. The Indeoin and cauldron are set up. The Nemeton is to be evacuated completely of people by sunset.

Once the Nemeton is set up and emptied, its perimeter secured the Fenian guards posted, the AD addresses the Captain of the guard

Once the guard has established the pre-vigil procession may begin. The 3 Druids (Arddraoithe) accompanied by the Ard Righ, The Ard Britheim, the Ard Ollamh, and the ArdBhard moving Deosil in silence from the Southern promontory of the North-East entrance, finishing at the Northern promontory of the North-East entrance. (Ideally using monocles and the last rays of daylight) The 3 officiating Druids light their respective torches and place them in a row in the path of the North-East entrance. As the first light of the flames appears they chant I.A.O. to harmonize the flame's intent. Once the last of the 3 flames is intoned the 3 chant I.A.O. together, followed by

O Solus-iul na siorruidheachd                       O Guiding light of eternity

Chon solus aoibh an la an diugh                    Unto the joyous light of this day

Bi da mo thoir bho sholus ur an la an diugh    Be thou bringing me from the light of this day

Chon solus iul na siorruidheachd                   Unto the guiding light of eternity

Then the 3 officiating Druids ring their sycles by tapping them with their wands (silver boughs) 3 times as the sun sets signalling the beginning of the all night vigil. For the duration of the Vigil the 3 officiating Druids are to remain silent though the attendants and participants may sing hymns and the Ardrigh gives the customary "The night shall remain dark..." speech. At midnight (when the moon crests her zenith) the Ardrigh gives three shouts (preferably battle calls) and a piobair begins playing a calling of the clans piobearachd, after this all must strive to maintain silence until dawn.

a 'chloich air a bheil mi a' seasamh tha an talamh a 'cur taic mo chasan

the stone upon which i am standing is the earth that supports my feet

Le bhith a 'suidheachadh aige e' cur urram air an àite far a bheil i a-nis a 'seasamh

By its position it honours the place where i now stand

(sprinkles salt into water basin, then laddles the water between both palms 3 times)

An t-uisge ann mo lamhan                           the water in my hands

'S e tonn na fèin-' coileanadh sìorraidheachd      is the wave of the self-fulfilling eternity

bheannaichte gum bi gach nì a tha a 'suathadh blessed be everything it touches

(The now holy-water is now gathered in a bowl {if a bowl was not used in its establishment})

The 3 druids place their left hands under the bowl of sane-water and with the right hand asperge 3 times saying:

Air d'am b'aimn n'am tridsan n'am gras and on the name of the trinity of grace

Amhain                                               only one.

(The water from the bowl is ladled into the other water vessels)

 The Arddraoi then sprinkles the altar and the sacred ministers in order;

All 3:  Nis sam bith is dona duinn           Anything that is evil to us

Ideally, the rite will be timed to coincide with the rising of the sun on Beltane, for which a monocle should be use to light the Belfire with the first rays of the rising sun. In all other circumstances the fire is to be lit according to the nature of the rite, Moon rites with sticks, funerals with arrows/spears, weddings can be done with matches. The artificer requests the fire from the clach labhrais,

From sea to sea, with a sweet song
We praise your name a luaidh [term of endearment, like "dear"]
Under the shelter of your shield there is sweet freedom
That no enemy can seize from us
O Canada, the devotion of our hearts
Happiness with peace and the bounty of God to our land
Happiness with peace and the bounty of God to our land

God save the queen:

Dhia glèidh ar Banrigh mhòr,
Beatha bhuan da'r Banrigh choir,
Dhia glèidh 'Bhanrigh.
Thoir buaidh dhi, 'us solas,
Son' agus ro ghlòrmhoir,
Fada chum riaghladh oirnn';
Dhia glèidh 'Bhanrigh;

A Thighearn ar Dia èirich,
Sgap a naimhdean eitich,
'Us leag iad sìos.
Cuir clì an droch riaghladh,
Tilg sìos an lùib dhiabhlaidh,
Ar dòchas oirre leag—
Dhia glèidh 'Bhanrigh:

Do thìodhlaig mhaith thoir dhi,
Dòirt oirre pailt gun dith,
Fad' riaghladh i;
Ar reachdan dìonadh i,
Toirt dhuinn aobhar, gun sgìos,
'Bhi seinn le 'r guth 's ar cridh'
Dhia glèidh 'Bhanrigh!

God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save The Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save The Queen.

O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall:
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix:
God save us all.

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save The Queen!

(Here to observe a moment of silence)

In the silence the 3 ministers bow to the altar, Bow to the nobles, then to make their way to the need-fire. In day/ life rituals they arrange in the West (SD), North (AD), and East (DD). in night/ otherworld rituals they arrange West, South, and East respectively. At the fire the fire tender presents the 3 ministers with their laddles, and bowls and holds the offeratory mixes, in one bowl Milk, Honey, and Butter, in the other bowl, Wheat, Oats, and Barley. The liquid is laddled, the seed scattered. The dry offerings are put into the personal bowls after the first handful/ pinch is scattered to the fire. The liquid is then offered using the laddle and then some is mixed into the dry ingredients. Mix the two stiring only clockwise. The 3 Draoithe using their laddles offer the ambrosia to the fire.

AD:

Beatha againn ar an tine aran criolar ar dtalamh       We feed the fire on the heart of our land

Mar an Tine a chur orainn seilbh                              With the fire we take possession

Den talamh soilsese, ar an domhan a dheanann se te  Of the land it lights, of the world it warms

O anseo chun ann a chur orainn seilbh                       From here to there we take possession

With "anseo chun ann" the 3 ministers indicate from the East to the West

The clan chiefs (or their representatives) come forward to light their clan torches (so the rest of the assembled clan can light from theirs on their return)

Clan Chief/ Representative:

Bhailiu I do clann (Insert clan here)     I gather for clan (insert clan here)

DD: Togaidh am teine agus cuir leum shidhe   Lift your fire amd bring them peace

After the last of the clans has their fire, the 3 Draoithe make offering to the fire

AD:

Tonorach an Teine le cas deosil     Honour the fire with a sunwise turn

The 3 Draoithe make another offering to the fire then give their bowls back to the fire tender who arranges them to the side. The Rgh/ Tanaiste holds the Hammer/ Axe aloft before them leads the procession. The AD takes the sacrifice around led by the SD and followed by the DD and the nobles. Once 3 rounds are made (with hymns) the SD leads the AD and DD to the stone altar to put the offering back. The 2 draoithe return to the clach labrais and begin a "arms crossed new-years" circle (either just within the inner precinct or to join inner and outter precincts.

AD:

The first offering

The Arddraoi picks up the small piece of bread, the Soerdraoi the mead horn, and the Doerdraoi picks up three oat cakes from the top of the sacrificial piles, and take them to the Teine,, The AD breaks the bread up there, scatering the pieces on the ground while the SD pours a libation into the fire, and the DD offers 1 oat cake saying:

The 3 return to the altar. The AD pick up holy water in a vessel, the SD keeps the horn (but may refill it here), the DD pick up a thurible and incense. In the case of anOospicy the Righ/Tanaiste snads in the place of every chief and the Egg is simply paraded around the space. Otherwise, the 3 approach each Chromlech in sequence beginning in the east going clockwise. The representative/ Chieftain Greets the Druids:

Chief:

Holy ones I present this offering on behalf of (clann.....)

The 3 Druids inspect the animal. If it is admissible the DD will process around the animal with the incense clockwise, while the SD sprinkles 3 splash of whiskey, and the AD sprinkles 3 splashes of holy water on the offering saying:

All 3:

'S fior am tairiscint seo         A pure offering is this

Gun sharaionn no fabht          Without blemish or defect

Oiriunech don ( …..)              Fit for (…..)

The Chief here presents the binding cord of the animal to the AD saying:

Chief:

Go toilteanach agus gu fonmhar ta an [animal] tagtha      This [animal] has come willingly, eagerly

Ar fad fior                                                                     Whole, unblemished

Clu daithe sa or                                                             Covered in gold

I cheiliuredh agus ailleacht                                            In celabration and beauty

The AD ties the cord to the Chromlech

By this point the Champions should have returned to their clan's cromlech. All participants are poised. The scycle under a white cloth, the right arm of the clan Draoi is passed under the throat of the offering, the clann Ollamh holds the head, left hand on top.

ArdDraoi:

IONSAIL!!!              STRIKE!!!

All: I.A.O (accompanied by the rythmic ringing of bells and blasting of trumpets to drive off dark spirits)

As simultaneously as possible the Ollamh pulls the rope, the Draoi extract hand, garrotting in the process, as the Champion brings the axe down hard. If the animal struggles at all, or does not pass immediately it is to be taken as a vitium, and a bad omen for that clan. The Caoine woman who tied the cord of the ArdDraoi takes a cuaich of the yolk (Blood) of the ArdDraoi's offering in her right hand with Ogham staves in her left hand she approaches the recumbent stone altar. Once there she asperges the yolk in the 4 directions and casts the Ogham on the prepared diagram on the altar. This is to be recorded and interpreted after the moment of silent reverence

A moment of silence is here observed to silently send wishes/ prayers, or to thank the animal/ egg. This is an excellent opportunity to begin the auspices.

The Oospicies of each clann gathered**(*Note as to how the divination occurs*)**, that were presented by their cheiftains, are interpreted by their clan Druid or Ollamh. This interpretation is reviewed and aligned with the Nemeton's Ogham cast and the verse composed is given to the ministers who align it with the Nemeton's Oospicy. While this is occurring the cooks are given the meat for preparation. the whole of the offering (albumen and yolk, or whole animal) must be used to their fullest, and aportioned amongst all attendees, indeed amongst anyone who has not been excommunicated from Tairiiscint. Once the omens are gathered, and the food being prepared the ArdRigh steps forward, and addressing the ministers intones.

ArdRigh:

Draoithe! Cia do naidheachd?     Druids! What is the News?

The ArdDraoi here gives the prophecy. When finished the ArdDraoi will clap hands 3 times.

A procession/ step dance could here lead attendants out to enjoin in festivities, leaving the Draoithe/Chefs to begin preparing the feast..
