Establishment of a Nemeton: See the Brietheimh "On taking possesion"

Items required (For this ritual you will need:)

Best performed when a High Holiday falls on a New/ Full moon. For purposes here it is assumed to be a Full Moon on Beltane, adapt the rite as necessary. Once the ground is selected (prefereably by omen sign, if not an established Nemeton proper) an Argyll Broadsword is performed. Omen sign is taken from this. If vitium is done, the rite is not to be performed, but is to be rescheduled or relocated.

The Vigil

The day previous to the rite the Nemeton is cleaned, and the stones washed, prunning and trimming are done in preparation for the festival.Towards evening the cords of wood are brought in and placed next to their respective fire pits. The cleansed ritual instruments including the unbound binding-cord, the Sword, the sycle, the ladles, the Cuaich ect are set upon the altar stone. The kegs of Whiskey, Mead and Water are placed appropriately. The Indeoin and cauldron are set up. The Nemeton is to be evacuated completely of people by sunset, and censed in silence:

Caismeachd / Procession: as the congregants approach the Nemeton they chant:

(sung to the tune of the Wiccan chant)

Air my breath                                              Gaeth m'anal

Fire my soul                                                agus Teine M'annam

Water blood's beat                                      T-uisge mo fhuil

Earth my bone                                             talamh mo chnamh

To be sung by the clergy while approaching the Nemeton precinct, as well during the Druid's initial 3 circuits of the outer perimeter of the sanctuary;

(the text of the processional is derived from the Song of songs by Solomon)

-Mosgail, Mo Gradh, Mo Coll, Mo Leannan ’s mo Chridhe

  Arion, ag romhat leam mi

-Arise, My Love, My Dove, My Beautiful one

  Arise and come with me

Once the Tuatha has assembled a selction of Dancers will perform an Argyll braodsword, any (and I mean) any disturbance of the swords is to be counted as a vitium, the dance is performed until no vitium is caused: meaning if the dancers can perform the dance in 4 step without vitium it is a good sign and the ceremony can continue from there. Once the setting step is performed the central steps are to be performed unti there are 3 consecutive middle-steps done without vitium, each vitium means "start the count again". Once the 3 perfect middle steps are accomplished the closing step can begin. Only once the swords are sheathed and retrieved may the Druids procede with their 3 circuits of the outer precints of the Nemeton.

Once the ArdDraoi has done the 3 circuits s/he gives the land recognition. S/he begins with his/her own bell, and ends with his/her own bell.

(Indigenous) land recognition / Aithneachadh:

Tha sinn ag aithneachadh gu bheil sinn a coileanadh an Dheas-ghnath seo air fhear ann agus duthasach ciad dhutha channan _________

Thig sinn ann an sith gu aite na sithe

Gus sith a steidheachadh

Airson prionnsa na sithe

We recognize that we will be performing our Godly-Invocation upon the ceremonial and traditional lands of the ________ people.

We come in peace for the sake of peace

To bear the peace

For the prince of peace

Congregants sing the trisagion:

A Dia Naomh, Ard Chumachdach Naomh, Sior Mharaineach Naomh dean trogair oirnn  Holy God, Holy Almighty, Holy Immortal Have mercy upon us

While they sing that the Druids say:

Dia Naomh, a’coimhead tharis na tri cairdean sin a tha air sgath cuineach aidhean daoina

‘S tuas do h-uile h-aite, gidheadh tha sinn as adhraidh ruit an seo

‘S tusa h-aonais cruth, ach tha sin nag adhradh ort anns na cruthan sinn

Cha bhi feum agad air urnaigheann agus iobairtean

Ach tha sinn a gealltain na h-urnaighean agus n-iobairtean sinn dhuit

Cuimhne co dean sinn le deagh run.

Holy God overlook and forgive these three vanities

That are due to our human limitations

Thou art everywhere, yet we worship you here

Thou art without form, yet we worship you in these forms

Thou hast no need of prayer and sacrifice

Yet we offer you these prayers and sacrifices

Please remember that all we do, we do in good faith

We ask that you watch over, and bless our works

For the sake of all beings as limitless as space

Fennians (at once): Tha sinn ga mhionnachadh                                           We swear it

(perhaps have the Capitain of the guard do a fling at the entrance of the Nemeton enclosure to decvlare to the public that it is open.)

Once the guard has established the pre-vigil procession may begin. The 3 Druids (Arddraoithe) accompanied by the Ard Righ, The Ard Britheim, the Ard Ollamh, and the ArdBhard moving Deosil in silence from the Southern promontory of the North-East entrance, finishing at the Northern promontory of the North-East entrance. (Ideally using monocles and the last rays of daylight, but a flint lighter will do in a pinch) The 3 officiating Druids light their respective torches and place them in a row in the path of the North-East entrance. As the first light of the flames appears they chant I.A.O. to harmonize the flame's intent. Once the last of the 3 flames is intoned the 3 chant I.A.O. together, followed by

ArdDraoi:

Ring bell:

Observe a moment of silence to mark the beginning, still and center before staring the rite. Even the Multiverse began in stillness

Ring bell:

Anns am toiseachd bha am facal                                         In the beginning was the word

Agus bha am facl maille ruit a Dia                                        and the word was with/beside God

in it was light, and that light was the light of mankind

agus tha am solas soilearchadh anns am dorchadas           and the light shone in the darkness

Agus cha do ghabh am dorchadas a tha ann                        and the darkness had no desire for it

All: Facal naoimh                                                               The holy word

O Solus-iul na siorruidheachd                                           O Guiding light of eternity

Chon solus aoibh an la an diugh                                       Unto the joyous light of this day

Chon solus iul na siorruidheachd                                      Unto the guiding light of eternity

Then the 3 officiating Druids ring theirsyclesby tapping them with their wands (silver boughs) 3 times as the sun setssignallingthe beginning of the all night vigil. For the duration of the Vigil the 3 officiating Druids are to remain silent though the attendants and participants may sing hymns and the ArdRigh gives the customary "The night shall remain dark..." speech. At midnight (when the moon crests her zenith) the Ardrigh gives three shouts (preferably battle calls) and a piobair begins playing a calling of the clanspiobearachd, after this all must strive to maintain silence until dawn.

  Prayer of .I.Columncille:

 Almighty and everlasting God

You who declare your almighty power

chiefly in showing mercy and compassion

to all beings as limitless as space

Grant us the fullness of your grace

that we, running to obtain your promise

may become partakers of your divine gifts.

Your heros and saints are with you

(in the mystical body of Christ)

Grant us the grace to follow their example

in all our quests for virtue and holiness

until we come to those inexplicable joys

which you have established for those who love you

May your grace precede and follow us always

that we may continually be given to good works

Through Christ your emissary and with his holy mother

who live and reign through you and with you and your holy spirit.

We shall go unto the altar of Aedh (God the eternal),

Even unto the source of our joy and gladness

Give sentence with us oh Dia (Jah) who dwells in the beyond

Defend our cause against those who would do us harm.

Oh, Deliverer, deliver us from the decietful, and the wicked,

For thou art the source of my/our strenght

O send out thy light and thy truth: that they may lead us:

And bring us to thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling

And that we may go unto the altar of eternity,

Even unto the source of my joy and gladness:

And upon the Harp will I give thanks unto thee (que Clarsenach/Harpist)

Lift up our heavy hearts, and be not disquited with us

Let us put our trust in the Gods of our people

Whose hands have through the course of time

placed these masks upon eternity that we might give thanks,

For we will give thanks to that ineffable which is the help of our countenance,

Our goal, and our hope.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

We shall go unto the altar if eternity,

Behold the universe and the glory of God

and all that lives and moves on Earth

leaving the transient find joy in the eternal

set not your heart on the world of possesions

only actions done in God bind not the souls of living beings

May the spirit of life guide my streams of action

to the ocean of its being

May the Hazels (fruits) of my art (labour)

fall upon the field of action (Nechtan's well)

giving sustenance to the salmon (seekers) of divine wisdom

at swim in the ocean of being

May my breath in the heavens bear witness

to my prayers done here below

Light the 7 altar candles  from the main fire. Say the prayer first then light the candles in order (deosil):

I invoke the seven daughters of Ocean

Who weave the threads for the sons of age.

Nine deaths be taken from us,

Nine lifetimes be given to us,

In beautiful Lorica without hurt.

I shall not be injured by a gang of armed men

Nor a bevy of armed women.

Ay the Lord(s) of the universe stretch time for me,

I invoke Seanach of the Nine eons,

May the seven candles never be extiguished.

Oh ye seven daughters of each other, and each others mothers

Wrought by moon and sea for the measure of our days

I call you here by name

Faith, on the Monday (light first candle) gives birth to her sister self-control; May my Faith express itself in my deeds

Self-control, on the Tuesday (light second candle) gives birth to her sister Sincerity: may I control my tongue that I might speak true

Sincerity, on the Wednesday (light third candle) gives birth to her sister Innocence: May I soar beyond illusion

Innocence, on the Thursday (light fourth candle) gives birth to her sister Reverence: May I be mindfully reverent in all things

Reverence, on the Friday (light the fifth candle) gives birth to her sister Knowledge: May I be led from the unreal to the real

Knowledge, on the Saturday (light sixth candle) gives birth to her sister Love: May my love extend to all beings as limitless as space

Love is what we celebrate on the Sabbath (light the seventh candle)  She is the mother of Faith, and of them all: May I recognize God's love in all things

Translation:

O Canada

Land of the worthy heroes

A crown on your head of red and gold leaves

From sea to sea, with a sweet song

We praise your name a luaidh [term of endearment, like "dear"]

Under the shelter of your shield there is sweet freedom

That no enemy can seize from us

O Canada, the devotion of our hearts

Happiness with peace and the bounty of God to our land

Happiness with peace and the bounty of God to our land

God save our gracious Queen/King,

Long live our noble Queen/King,

God save The Queen/King:

Send her victorious,

Happy and glorious,

Long to reign over us:

God save The Queen/King.

O Lord our God arise,

Scatter her enemies,

And make them fall:

Confound their politics,

Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On Thee our hopes we fix:

God save us all.

Thy choicest gifts in store,

On her be pleased to pour;

Long may she reign:

May she defend our laws,

And ever give us cause

To sing with heart and voice

God save The Queen!

Alone with none but thee my God

i journey on my way,

What need I fear when thou art near,

Great chief of night and day.

More safe am I within thy hand

Than if a host did around me stand

Oh God of Druids, my God above all other Gods

i confess that

There is no other God,

Nor ever was, nor ever will be,

 Than God the creator, unbegotten

Without beginning

from whom is all beginning

sovereign of the universe as we have been taught

And whose progeny are those Thaisbeanaidhean Dhe (avatars)

Whom we declare to have always been with the creator

spiritually and ineffably begotten by the creator

Before the beginning of the world, before all beginning,

and by that triunity and its progeny are made all things

Visible and invisible.

joining mankind as Thaisbeanaidhean Dhe (avatar),

and by defeating death

They were received into the halls of glory by the creator

Where, having passed the test of humanity crossed over into Saoirse

and they have been given all power

over all names in the heavens. and on the earth

and under the earth

and every tongue shall confess that

that they are the Thaisbeanaidhean Dhe  of the sovereign Aedh/God

in whom we believe, and whose advent we expect soon to be

Judges of the living and the death

who will render to all according to their deeds

they have poured forth upon us abundantly the holy Imbas

the gift and pledge of immortality

That makes those who believe and obey

Children of Dia, and joint heirs with the Thaisbeanaidhean Dhe

and that one do we confess and adore

one God in the trinity of the holy name

I arise this day

Through a mighty strength

  the invocation of the Trinity

through belief in the threeness

Through confession of the oneness

of the creator of the creation

I arise today

Through the love of all things Holy

in obedience of the edicts of fairness

in service if others, and for their love

in the hope of reconciliation,

   Without thought of reward

in the prayers of the people

in the predictions of the Draoithe

in the preachings of the Ollamhs

in the innocence of the Holy

in the deeds of the righteous

i arise today through

the strength of heaven,

the light of sun,

the radiance of moon

the splendor of fire

the speed of lightning

the swiftness of wind

the depth of sea

 the stability of earth

 the firmness of stone

I arise today through

God's strength to pilot me

God's might to uphold me

God's wisdom to guide me

God's eye to look before me

God's ear to hear me

God's word to speak for me

God's shield to protect me

God's host to save me

From snares and vices

from temptations of every kind

and from all those who would wish me ill

Both near and far

I set out upon thy path oh God

God be before me, God be behind me

God be in my footsteps

The charm which D'Anu placed upon her sons

Twas Bridget who blew it through her palms

knowledge of truth and no lie

as she saw, may i see

the likeness of that which i am seeking

now i walk in beauty

Beauty is before me

Beauty is behind me

Beauty above and below me

Beauty is within me

beauty is the about

beauty on my right side

beauty on my left side

Beauty when i lay down

beauty when I rise again

beauty in the heart of all who think of me

beauty in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me

beauty in the eye that sees me

beauty in the ear that hears me

i arise today through a mighty strength

the invocation of the trinity

Through belief on the Threeness

Through confession of the oneness

of the creator of the creation

One God in the trinity of the holy family

Whose exalted name rings through eternity

(Here to observe a moment of silence)

Am Ainghealach (The kindling/ Angel making)

In the silence the 3 ministers bow to the altar, Bow to the nobles, then to make their way to the need-fire. In day/ life rituals they arrange in the West (SD), North (AD), and East (DD). in night/ otherworld rituals they arrange West, South, and East respectively. At the fire the fire tender presents the 3 ministers with their laddles, and bowls and holds the offeratory mixes, in one bowl Milk, Honey, and Butter, in the other bowl, Wheat, Oats, and Barley. The liquid is laddled, the seed scattered. The dry offerings are put into the personal bowls after the first handful/ pinch is scattered to the fire. The liquid is then offered using the laddle and then some is mixed into the dry ingredients. Mix the two stiring only clockwise. The 3 Draoithe using their laddles offer the ambrosia to the fire.

AD:

Beatha againn ar an tine aran criolar ar dtalamh                                                                     We feed the fire on the heart of our land

Mar an Tine a chur orainn seilbh                                                                                             With the fire we take possession

Den talamh soilsese, ar an domhan a dheanann se te                                                            Of the land it lights, of the world it warms

O anseo chun ann a chur orainn seilbh                                                                                    From here to there we take possession

With "anseo chun ann" the 3 ministers indicate from the East to the West

The clan chiefs (or their representatives) come forward to light their clan torches (so the rest of the assembled clan can light from theirs on their return)

Clan Chief/ Representative:

Bhailiu I do clann (Insert clan here)                                                                                        I gather for clan (insert clan here)

DD: Togaidh am teine agus cuir leum shidhe                                                                         Lift your fire amd bring them peace

After the last of the clans has their fire, the 3 Draoithe make offering to the fire

(congregants approach and have their vigil candles lit from the needfire singing)

Togaigh mi mo teine and diugh                                     I will kindle my fire this morning

fo suil Bride agus am Tuatha de Dannan  Beneath the eyes of St.Bridget and the Tuatha de Dannan

Brighid fhaodhaid fhein ann mo chridh steach           Bridget kindle in my innermost heart

Aingheal graidh 'na m'chomhearsnach                            A flame of love for my neighbour

Do m'namh, do m'dhamh, do m' chairde           To my foe, to my friend, to my kindred all

Do 'n t-saoidh, do m'damh, do n'traille                    to the brave, to the knave, to the thrall

Gun gnu, gun tnu, gun fharmaid               Without malice, without jealousy, without envy

Gun ghiobh, gun ghabh, roimh neach air an talamh Without fear, without terror of anyone

(Fo suil am Greine)x2                                                            (under the sun)x2

As the participant lights their fire they walk doesil around the fire to return to their place

Tonorach mi an Teine le cas deosil                Honour the fire with a sunwise turn

The 3 Draoithe make another offering to the fire then give their bowls back to the fire tender who arranges them to the side. The Rgh/ Tanaiste holds the Hammer/ Axe aloft before them leads the procession. The AD takes the sacrifice around led by the SD and followed by the DD and the nobles. Once 3 rounds are made (with hymns) the SD leads the AD and DD to the stone altar to put the offering back. The 2 draoithe return to the clach labrais and begin a "arms crossed new-years" circle (either just within the inner precinct or to join inner and outter precincts.

Daoine: (Singing) we are a circle, a living circle, with no beginning, and never ending

AD : Here, in this place that is not a place

At a time that is not a time

Betwixt the worlds and amongst then

Here do we approach the divine

As above, so below

As within, so without,

As the Cosmos, so the soul

(Neither is here nor there)

All Gods are one God,

All Goddesses one Goddess

All are emanations of the one divine source.

In the shining light of eternity

All mountains are the world mountain,

All trees are the world tree,

All rivers are the sacred stream.

In this abundance give thanks to the one

Who brought us from yesterday to the beginning of today

Everlasting joy to earn for our souls with good intent.

Be thou bringing us from the new light of this day

Unto the guiding light of eternity

Be thou bringing us from the new light of this day

Unto the guiding light of eternity

INVOCATION:

Hail to thee ruler of the thrones of the earth

The oldest of existences, the ancients of heaven

Supporters of all things, Origen of the Gods and men alike

Hallmark of truth, and cornerstone of justice

Maker of humans, beasts, and herbs, maker of all things

Maker of the above, maker of the below

Deliverer of the sufferer and oppressed. Judging the poor

Source of wisdom, source of mercy, most loving opener of every eye

Source of joy, in whose goodness the Gods rejoice

Thou whose name is hidden

Hail to the one truth which the wise call by many names

Adoration and praise to thee

A Hailing to thee be on the lips, hearts, and minds

Of all creatures from every land

From the heights of heaven

To the depths of the sea

The spirits thou hast made extol thee

Saying, welcome to thee we worship thy spirit

Which is within us

You Gods are never truly lonely

for you live in the light of each others faces

and your souls are like golden drops of joy

Hail to thee Holy Mother, Mor-Rigan, Theotokos

in whose great womb of time and space

Aedh-Protogonis, the self manifest

double-sexed, a living X

across whose meeting point is undivided,

begotten on himself

first begotten

You are the ocean of origin, and the mother of earth

Your harbor is the sanctuary

from whence all life emerged

and to which, in the end,  all life must return

It is you who are the alpha and the omega

the first and the last

You are the birch (Beith) and the Yew (Idho)       'S tu na Beith agus am Idho

you are the being of all life                                    'S tu n,am B'i na Bith

O Wife of life                                                       O Bhean na Bheatha

You Move and move not

you are both far and near

you are within all, and outside all

the end of all opposites and their beginning

the source of all praise

and the goal of all prayers

Intercede and be with us now

more distant than the cosmos

and yet closer to us than our own blood

fertile is the ground from which you

manifest all things, all actions, and all causes

Oh Ocean of chaos, Mother of Order

You who bore the sacred mound

on which the first stirrings, first life, and first fire were found

you are both the earth that nourishes the seed

and the beams of the grainery wherein the harvest of the years is stored

You are beyond measure

yet we measure our prayers to you

You are the stage-ground in which the thought is played

ever virgin queen, mother of all

All is known to you and nothing can be hidden

Hide not behind the veil of eternity,

But be with us now!

O, God whose voice is thunder

whose presence is lightning

first among like natured Gods to dwell

Hear my little voice that calls you here

with libations, with prayers poured out, we call you here

destroyer of opposition, destroy all which opposes us;

remover of obstacles, remove all in our way

Goforth before us along our path.

Guide us through the untamed lands,

O protector, O cleaver of mountains

whose footsteps shake the forest

The trembling earth resounds your tread

Be with us now

O Holy God/Aedh, First among like natured Gods to dwell

who rest(s) among thy saints and Heroes

Thou art lauded in all creation

Glorified by existence

and praised by all living things

with thrice holy voice,

and worshiped by all the host

of heaven and earth, and beneath the earth

You who move and move not,

you who are both far, and near

you who are within all, and outside all

Thou who brought all things

out of nothingness into being

Thou who givest to the suppliant wisdom and prudence

and dost not neglect the transgressor, but has set forth

the way of repentance unto salvation.

Thou who has accounted us, thy humble and loving Stewarts

worthy to stand here at this point in the time space continuum

before the glory of thy holy altar

and bring to thee meet adoration, praise, devotions, and offerings

Do thou, O master of all, accept even from our mouths

the thrice holy hymn and visit us in thy righteousness,

Forgive us of all our transgressions,

Voluntary, and Involuntary,

Sanctify our souls and bodies

and grant that we may worship thee in holiness

all the days of our lives:

May my every breath be a prayer,

may every movement be in  thy praise

Through the intercessions of thy holy mother and

all the Gods, and saints, who from the beginning of time

Who have pleased thee;

For thou, O God, art Holy and to thee we ascribe Glory

To the Father, and the Mother, and we their holy children, united in holy spirit

as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be

now and forever

from the age of ages to the end of ages

from all ages to all ages

Thine is the Kingdom

the power and the glory

be here with us now

Carry our love to eternity

and make us immortal through thine own eternal  love

REQUISITION:

Receive oh Holy trinity, this oblation which we offer in thine honour

Blessed Theos, holy Theotokos, and all thy heroes and saints

For our transgressions, and offences, for the salvation of the living

And the repose of all the faithful departed

In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy spirit

In the name of the Maiden, the Mother , and the holy Crone

Let this sacrifice be acceptable to thee, almighty ruler of the thrones of the earth.

(Smudge everything thrice with the incense)

Let our prayers be set forth in thy sight as the incense

By it, may our breath in the heavens bear witness

To our prayer done here down below.

May we always strive to do in the world if the three

As the angels, saints, and heroes do in heavenly halls of Glory

(cense everyone in all grades behind…)

(an Anruth brings water in a bowl, and a blossom of hyssop)

Cleanse me Oh Gods from all pollution of mind and body,

That I may in purity perform the holy work of thine offering.

(Druid secretly whispers this prayer before the altar, kissing the altar before and after

Crossing themselves throughout)

In the spirit of humility, and with contrite heart let us be accepted of thee,

ye Gods, and let our sacrifice be in such wise in thy sight that it may be accepted of thee this day,

and be it of pleasure to thee

All praise to thine eternal merit

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

By Maiden, Mother, and Holy Crone

Guide these contrite hands

That they may not fail.

From a word to a word

May I be led to a word,

From a deed to another deed

(Cross over the host 3 times)

In remembrance of our Lord, (Great/right progeny of) the Gods and Goddesses, and Aedh Sioraidh

Who sent our Saviour to grace this earth in the form of the Christ

I know you hung from that wind torn tree

Nine long nights, bloodied by your own blade

Yourself and offering to yourself, that we might all be free

By being nailed to the cross, the flower of Jesse’s tree bloomed,

By being pierced by a lance out poured a healing wave

Wherein you have become a fountain head of immortality for all beings as limitless as space.

Glory be to you and the mighty gift which you gave for our sake

Glory to you, and your avatars, Oh God of Druids, my God above all other Gods

Now, and forever, from the age of ages to the end of time
